Trump’s Ukraine Post, Europe’s Smirk, America’s Reality!

In his latest Truth Social post, Donald Trump surprised many by calling for a return to Ukraine’s 1991 borders. Zelensky celebrated. Macron smirked, as if he had finally trapped Trump into backing Kyiv’s war to the bitter end. Poland cheered as it positioned itself to profit from military sales and replace Germany as NATO’s spear.

But the reality is far different.

Trump hasn’t recommitted America to Ukraine. He’s washed his hands of it. He’s effectively turned Ukraine into a European project, and an American money making machine. If Europe wants to continue a proxy war with Russia, let them. Let Germany raise its defense budget at the expense of its struggling citizens. Let Poland posture as NATO’s spear, while being wholly unprepared for real conflict. Let them all purchase weapons from the US. And let Russia continue grinding down Ukraine’s forces because that’s the battlefield reality.

That reality hasn’t changed since Trump’s infamous White House meeting with Zelensky, where he told him bluntly: “Ukraine does not have the cards to win.”

What’s Really Happening

Trump is stepping away from ownership of the war.

Ukraine’s leadership is exploiting his words to extract more weapons from Europe, ensuring a longer, bloodier conflict.

Russia remains on track to dismantle Ukraine’s military capacity regardless of Western declarations.

The Bigger Task Ahead

The true issue is no longer Ukraine. It’s strategic arms control. The START Treaty the last remaining nuclear agreement between Washington and Moscow expires in February. That’s the real battleground.

While Europe cheers over Trump’s supposed “support” for Ukraine, the Trump camp is signaling to Moscow that Washington’s focus is shifting to the next negotiation. In doing so, they are effectively giving Russia time to finish dismantling Ukraine’s forces, a task that may well be complete within one year.
